Egypt has a population of 83,688,164 with sex ratio 1.05 males per female according to the CIA world fact record book .Overall literacy rate is 72% , with 80.3% in males and 63.5% in females .According to the Egyptian demographic health survey (EDHS, 2008) 91 %of all women age 15-49 ingest been circumcised. However, the results also suggest that estimation to the practice may be declining in some population groups.
For example, while exceeding 80%, female circumcision rates among women under age 25 are lower than rates in the 25-49 age groups, where 94-96 %of women have been circumcised.

According to the EDHS Female Genital Mutilation has been an Egyptian tradition since the era of the pharaohs and adherence to the custom is still widely prevalent.
