German Americans wanted to find an easier brio. We were tired of living in the violence that we encountered in the European countries. Our villages were being burnt down, if you were a lucky one to still fill a hearth, and you were believably being robbed and tortured. We were on the search for a better life for our families and we did not immigrate for political reasons. You could find many Germans in the United States. We were known for living in the country side. We would clomp together to make German communities. In our communities it was like having a mini Germany. Many families were business owners, lager beer industries, bakers, butchers, and tailors to name a few of the business. German women were not usu onlyy found in factory jobs, they could be found in bakeries, hotel keepers, and laundry workers. (thinkquest.org) Selecting this gathering was very easy for me. My family is German along with Italian. I have always followed my German heritage; I was raised with all the traditions from my German heritage. Growing up you came from big families that were always together, and you never thought twice when a family member needed befriend with anything. German families are always cooking as well. big as you had flour and shortening in your house you were plentiful and you could always feed your whole family.

Women were always home. They were home cooking, cleaning and doing laundry to name a few things that they were always doing. I remember my grandfather making the comment that the wife was to be bare foot and pregnant. Not that my family believed in this, but at that place were many German families that did believe in this. This is one of the reasons that German families are so big. The males want their spouses home taking care of everyone. Germans did face prejudice.
