Optimism Vs. Reality
Is Holdens view of the gentlemans gentleman demoralized but accurate, or is he completely detached from
ingenuousness? The novel, Catcher In The Rye, by J.D. Salinger, the main character of this story,
experiences bumps in his road of sustenance, and the question as to whether the outlook on life from his
perspective is simply pessimistic, or a complete detachment from reality. Throughout the story,
it is never clearly stated that Holden is going through with(predicate) any emotional strain, but Holden performs
odd, anxious behavior that be indefinitely prominent he is. It seems as if though deity were out
to get him, be serve nothing ever pans out to his advantage. concomitant struggles fall onto
Holdens lap that appear to kick him spot hes down, only contribute to his detachment from
reality. though its not clearly stated, it is, however, implied that he is not emotionally, nor
mentally stable.
The incident that Holden, got kicked out of his home and school, realized the deprivation he
has of friends, conscious(predicate) that the love of his life is out of his reach, and the loss of someone whom
meant the world to him, are keen to the imbalance his mind commemorates.
When Holden wrote
the composition rough Allie, he ripped up the composition and threw it angrily. He developed a
sense of disrespect from Stradlater, and became very upset and sad. This is important cause this
showed that he still felt Aliies loss strongly. That corresponding night, Holden also attacked Stradlater ,
because Stradlater refused to talk about is date. This night was the starting point, when we as an
audience were shown the vulnerability to the hate and frustration Holden held deep within him.
Holden constantly refers to everyone in the novel as morons and losers. He is on the dot the
