In F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel The Great Gatsby, Nick the narrator, decides to go back home to his Midwestern roots after consumption the summer on the east. Witnessing the horrid fail of Gatsbys envisage and lack of support at Gatsbys funeral, Nick realizes that the shallowness of the community on the East Coast is a hold fast for the terrifying deterrent example emptiness that much of it holds.
