Spanish was his master(a) speech communication at home; therefore, it was difficult for him to plow face in
school and he was very shy. However, he did overcome his modesty and raised his hand to
answer a question in English after being told by his instructor to speak English at home. Since
then, he considered himself a national individualism and not a socially disadvantaged child he once
was. In his home, they converse less because English has endure his old language. He
disagreed with the multilingual educators that children lose a detail of individuality by
becoming assimilated into customary society. In his opinion, assimilated into the public society has
changed him and made him achieved his full individuality. English has become his primary
language; he likes the fact that his parents were no longer communicating in Spanish and the
house is more quiet.
When I came to America at the age of 5, I knew very little English. I always sit in the
corner by myself in my first grade class. I feared being called by the teacher to answer a
question and I would cry because I couldnt do my homework. My parents couldnt help me
much because they didnt know English anymore than I do.
I freighter relate to Richard that I need
encouragement to speak English especially at home where I can act my English. By the
end of the school year, I was able to exceed with my classmates and I that was the
greatest achievement for me.
I agree with the bilingual educators that student should be reminded of his heritage.
My native language has always been the primary language in my home and English remain the
public language unlike Richard. I disagree with Richard when he find those people who
chose not to assimilate into the public society as decadent self-pity. My older brother is very
