Teaching resources are becoming limited by the day. Other than facilities, teachers too are few compared to the number of students they are supposed to teach. With the prevailing situation students and children with special are at times ignored or underserved. For this reason schools employ paraprofessionals to aid the teachers in handling these students. Teachers are meant to supervise these assistants and make sure the time is utilized well.
Unlike teachers paraprofessionals have restricted duties. For instance they are not to grade papers since they spend their time in the classroom with the students. Paraprofessionals work under strict job restrictions. As the work closely with the teacher and the students, they might sometimes find themselves taking roles of the teachers. Some even complain of not being aware of their job descriptions.
Students are sometimes given a paraprofessional essay to write to appreciate the role played by these people in our institutions. Paraprofessionals hold important positions in the schools as they spend more of their time with the students than the other teachers who take time in their offices. There are some skills that students are expected to learn but teachers do not teach or offer aid in such. In such instances teacher aids or paraprofessionals take stance. These teacher assistants take the students through these skills until they are well learnt.
The role of education aides ranges depending on the students one is handling. They should be able to teach the students communication skills, assist in handling math and sciences and social studies. Paraprofessionals are important people in institutions and should be treated as such. Their dedication and patience is what makes professionals out of students who have long been thought of as incapable.
