First off, at the beginning of darns behavioral changes, Mel should have been documenting them daily on paper. This would stand by Mel to be accurate when confronting Jack and perhaps H.R. (Human Resources) if there is this causa of department where Mel and Jack ar working. Mel should also be up to date with his knowledge of B.O.L.I. and its policies regarding termination. Employees can be terminated if their proceeding is deficient or if their behavior does not merit move employment. As a supervisor, Mel has given Jack the opportunity to define his behavior so it is up to Mel to determine if Jack should be terminated. As long as shows his documentation and has that to prove that Jack is not acting as a credible employee, Mel has all(a) rights to proceed with termination. No written notification is required, but is power replete(p)y recommended for Mels sake in case Jack decided to deliver an issue of his termination. Mel will need to terminate verbally as well and explain with his documentation in a passkey manner why Jack is being terminated. There could be many reasons for the change so no assumptions should be made.
I always give people the benefit of the doubt and suck in its something at home and if I ask in genuinely caring fashion, employees tell me and I tell them to go home, and do not come back until it is resolved. This could be something as aboveboard as a kid being sick or a pending divorce. In a more right situation, I point them to HR and any benefits that might be available like EAP, which includes legal, substance abuse, and financial assistance at little to no cost.
