Limitations
The drafters of the Constitution or the American foundation garment Fathers developed the New Science of Politics, (Magstadt 97) which showed their incomparable understanding of the limitations of human nature. This is displayed in their design of the American governmental institution. Their design began with compartmentalizing the main complexifyes of government, as well as establishing a system of checks and balances which helped prevent the concentration of power in individually branch. The reasoning behind the need for checks and balances can be tack together in the writings of several utopian writers. These utopian writers believed or dreamt of a perfect society where all social and semipolitical ills were nearly eliminated or even non-existent. Although it is quite clear the Founding Fathers knew that a perfect society was indeed impossible, they also realized, a democracy based upon the hope of a utopian society might possibly permit the best of both worlds. To lucre an insight into the Founding Fathers basis for their New Science of Politics, a study of their design compared and contrasted with four poplar utopias is necessary.
As storied above, the Founding Fathers design was based upon a system of dissemination of power between the branches of government and a system of checks and balances for and against each branch. The branches of government are the executive (President), the legislative (Congress), and the judicial (Supreme Court). The executive and Legislative branches are arranged to be elected positions, exclusively the judicial members are appointed by the Executive. This design helps to fix liberty by discouraging any single branch from centralizing power, while at the same time guarding against tyranny. In effect, the checks and balances design caused ambition to counteract ambition (Alexander and Hamilton no. 51 337).
